The Shimano Saltie and Tranx 150A is one of the toughest and most versatile baitcasting combos on the market. Whether you're casting crankbaits into heavy structure for Barra or dropping vibes in deep holes for Threadfin Salmon, Larger Barramundi and Queenfish this combo is equipped to give you the best chance of hooking and landing the fish of a lifetime. The Tranx is Shimano's flagship purpose built saltwater baitcasting reel, using technology such as X-Ship which is also found in top of the line overhead gamefishing reels the Tranx can handle the toughest conditons Australia has to throw at it. The Shimano Saltie 5'8 can be used effectively in many different applications, its short length allows the angler to produce an overhead cast even when fishing in dense structure or on a crowded boat, its short length accomodates easy travel and makes it easier to net or gaff fish once boatside. The reel is spooled with 135m of 30lb J-Braid x4, the abrasion resistance that comes with x4 braid is essential for Barramundi fishing, especially when creek fishing as the angler can expect to have lures end up in trees and snags. Additionally, when casting into tight structure it is likely that eventually a big enough Barramundi will graze the braid on a rock or submurged bit of timber, x4 braid will fare better in these situations than x8 or x12 braid.
