When heading out on mothership trips to patches of reef far out into the coral sea some of the best fishing you can expect to have is over shallow reef flats and bommies. You'll be casting small stickbaits and soft plastics for species such as Coral Trout, Giant Trevally, Wrasse, Chinaman and pelagics. Since the water is so shallow you need a combo which will extract hard fighting reef fish out of the coral into open water to avoid being busted off, this is why we chose the Saltist Hyper Multi-Tool as the rod for this combo. It has a soft enough tip to allow you to cast light lures yet you will find its strong backbone gives you optimal cranking power when fighting fish. The Saragosa 5000 is a workhorse reel, its 10kgs of locked up drag pressue will help you land fish much larger than what should be possible for a reel of its size. The Saragosa has an extra fast gear ratio, ideal for spinning lures. Shimano made sure to pack in as much sealing as possible for the Saragosa range, meaning that it can handle saltwater, sand and other debris.
